Success! 10 Day Challenge

Well, I did it. I feel like I just ran a marathon, but for 10 straight days, I created a unique piece of art. If I can do it for 10 days, maybe I can re-visit that 30 day challenge that I attempted in September (!) And you can do it too:)

Although the rules allowed to post a previously-made piece rather than create a piece each day, I sat down and created new works each day, mostly floral abstracts with a thank you card design as well.

Day 1 - Kickoff!

Day 1 - Kickoff!

Days 2-10 above. Some pieces were hits, others misses, and some were just blah. But the key is maintaining momentum. There’s something so reassuring about goals, routines and action while these times are forcing us to become BFFs with Uncertainty. Self discipline yields results.

Speaking of which, a huge Thank You to the Society of Western Canadian Artists (aka SWCA located here on the Interweb). I was invited to be Feature Artist of the Month for December 2020 where I get to be featured on the Newsletter and speak a bit about my art. What a special honour, made even more so because it’s the first feature after a break of a few months. I am super stoked! The 10 day challenge certainly helped in raising my profile and getting me out there.

Another observation? Challenges help the artist work in series. I found a pattern developing. I enjoy painting plants from life, and from reference art. So, theoretically, if I keep setting challenges, I should be able to develop series of works over time. So this leads me to my next challenge. Another 10 day-er but this time the theme will be Adoptable Cats. Thanks to SafeTeam’s work here in Edmonton (see here)! They’re wonderful - and i’m happy to help if I can.

Til next time Folks! Stay safe and healthy.
