Autumn Baby: 30 Day Challenge

As I near my due date of mid-October, I have about 5 clear weeks to focus, re-balance and set some intentions. One way to anchor these days before our son is born and life changes forever (!) is to do a 30 day art challenge with the theme: Autumn in honour of the most beautiful season of the year. Come what may each day, but I will be creating daily watercolour sketches and I invite you to join me.

So here’s the plan: one sketch a day 30 days straight starting when you see this (or for me today, Sep 7th). I’m going to stick to a floral theme, drawing inspiration from photos taken of neighbourhood gardens in the summer here in Edmonton or my source books and Pinterest boards on Indian textiles, Japanese woodblock prints and more.

For an extra stretch, i’m also going to try abstracting these out beyond recognizability provided the starting point is a floral image or pattern.

Day 1: Autumn Foliage - 6”x12” in Watercolour, Ink and Pastel on Paper

My next post in a couple weeks will show my experiments and progress (aiming for minimum 15) and I am happy for the focus.
