Markets, shows and other christmas goings on

Hello and Season’s Greetings from my Studio!!

Well, I’ve been up to a lot this month. And December is going to start off just as busy. To recap, I had a great time at Justina Smith’s workshop early November with the rest of the gang from the Society of Western Canadian Artists (SWCA) and hosted by Signworks Plus. The amazing Justina shared her techniques and per my usual style, ended up making two very busy paintings. My work almost always needs to be edited “generously” which I did after a few days break.

  • I highly recommend you check out Justina’s work here.

I’m gearing up to teach Fearless Faces next week Dec 1st at the Paint Spot! Teaching has been a blast so far, but I do get nervous. The way I see it is that no one is “the” expert, but the more unique your point of view the better. I think most of us learn what we can, play and have some fun with it and then take our turn to share what we know.

Right, now here’s where things really pick up. I’m showing my work at a few places starting this month and plan to attend some opening events too so I look forward to crossing paths should you also happen to be there!

  1. Downtown Edmonton Farmer’s Market Nov 26, 27 and Dec 3,4 (both Sat & Sun). I’ll be showcasing a selection of original art, prints and cards - something for every price point.

2. Solo show at Remedy Cafe 124th Street. My show runs until end of November. Grab a chai while you’re there! See here for location and menu.

I also figured out how to generate and use QR codes for this show (proud of myself)!

3. Art O Rama fundraiser art show and sale for Harcourt House. Dec 2-10. Opening night on Dec 2 will include a reception which I plan to attend. I have three pieces in this show and 50% of sale proceeds will go towards saving Harcourt House from losing their current property lease. There is also an online version of the gallery.

Show and venue details here.

4. Group show “Eternal Summer” to counteract the Infernal Winter that we experience in Edmonton at the Multicultural Heritage Centre in Stony Plain. I will have the following three pieces in the show which runs from Dec 8th to Feb 23rd.

Show and venue details here.

5. Finally, I am very proud to announce that my work will be displayed at the Strathcona branch of the Edmonton Public Library (main floor) starting Dec 1 and will run until March. I will be showing some of my earlier works that are quieter but still a committed exploration of the floral subject.

Location details here and a small selection of images below, only three below but there will be a total of about twelve!

If you’ve made it this far, I salute you! I hope you are also enjoying the season, and perhaps your own art practice too if you can find the time (!). It is especially important during the holidays to have that alone time and ground yourself through creative expression, whatever form that takes.

All the very best,

Meghana
