First Show, Complementary Colours and Layered Leaves
I did it. I had my first show on the May long weekend and made some sales thanks to friends and supporters:) A huge heartfelt thank you to all. I met some new friends, talked to old friends, and generally had a wonderful time with lovely conversations.
My sign did well too, I got some walk by pedestrian traffic stop ins to the Courtyard. I call my little fence outdoor gallery the Courtyard Gallery due to the setting of the pink stonework patio, walls and steps.
The Courtyard Gallery is at 83rd Ave between 96th and 97th streets NW on Saturdays this summer so come on by! If my sign is on the sidewalk, there will be paintings outside for sale. Viewings are also made by appointment. Just use the Contact Form and we can set something up.
Some highlighted paintings are shown below. The first three sold. All other paintings can be bought through my Saatchi shop here.
Looking at my work as a whole, I find that small works tend to be more complex and use more mixed media techniques like washi paper while larger works are more streamlined.
I was so energized and inspired by the show and all the conversations I had, that I kept painting this weekend and came up with the following:
Called Lush Complement, this square format is really interesting to work with. At 30”x30”, I got my steps in by constantly stepping away and back to see the whole piece. Complement because of the complementary colours of red and green.
The next piece called Layered Leaves is another big one at 24”x30”x1”. This is more a value study in green and a monochromatic, limited palette.
Both pieces are also available in my Saatchi shop here.
I hope to see you at the Courtyard to discuss and look at art this summer. Again, thank you for your time in reading this post and your support. I hope you continue to be inspired by my thoughts and work.
Until next time, happy painting!
